Why Join Our Club?

Love the outdoors? So do we!

Join a fantastic community of walkers and climbers from all walks of life, united by a passion for exploring Scotland’s great landscapes.

We’re one of the oldest hillwalking clubs in Scotland, with experienced and welcoming members always ready to share their knowledge.

Each outing offers a choice of routes to suit every level — from gentle countryside strolls to challenging high-level mountain hikes.

Our coach outings run every second Saturday from August to June, visiting classic destinations such as Glencoe, Aviemore, Fife, and many other scenic corners of Scotland — and sometimes even the Lake District!

You’re welcome to try a few walks before joining.
We also organise two weekend trips each year — one in May and one in September — to explore areas beyond our regular routes.

What to Expect

Before each walk, members meet on Zoom every Tuesday evening to plan routes for the upcoming trip.

You can simply hop on the bus and join someone else’s route, or take part in the planning sessions to learn valuable map-reading and navigation skills.

Our experienced members are always happy to help new walkers — all you need to do is ask.

All routes are carefully planned so that everyone meets back at the coach in time for a social stop on the way home, whether that’s a coffee or a well-earned pint!

What to Wear & Bring

Scottish weather can change in an instant — even in summer — so having the right gear is key to staying safe and comfortable.

Pack your day bag (around 30–35 L) with these essentials:

Winter Hillwalking

If you’re tackling Munros in winter, you’ll need crampons, an ice axe, and extra warm clothing. We can help you learn how to use them safely.

Most kit can be bought second-hand or on a budget, and you can upgrade over time as you gain experience.

  • Boots: Sturdy walking boots are essential for grip, ankle support, and keeping feet dry.

  • Avoid jeans: Cotton stays wet and cold. Choose synthetic or quick-dry fabrics instead.

  • Layer up: Wear several light layers rather than one thick one. Always pack gloves and a warm hat — even in summer.

  • Waterproofs: Carry a good jacket with hood and waterproof trousers. They double as wind protection too.

Night before: Eat a high-carb meal (like pasta) for lasting energy.
Morning of: Have a solid breakfast.
After: Bring a full change of clothes to leave on the bus — it’s the best feeling after a long day on the hills!
